Marlon Gomes: 'It's a bad result, we wanted to get points'
Shakhtar midfielder reacts to the Champions League defeat against Sporting.
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Marlon Gomes has expressed his frustration following the 0-1 defeat to Sporting in the 4th round of the Champions League league phase.
"It was a very difficult match. Arda Turan told us it's important not to drop our heads. We played a great game against a very strong Sporting team, but unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on our chances despite having many players in attacking positions. It's a bad result, as we wanted to pick up points," the player stated.
It's a bad result. We wanted to get points. I think we played well tonight, just like against Inter, but unfortunately, we still haven't managed to get any points. Marlon Gomes
Gomes noted that Sporting's tactical setup was unexpected: "Sporting took a defensive stance and applied individual pressing in midfield, which made the game look a bit like our match against PSV. That made life difficult for us."
Despite the setback, the squad remains focused on moving forward. Gomes emphasized that the team must keep their heads high, especially with the upcoming domestic "Clasico" against Dynamo Kyiv.
