Manchester City have officially completed the return of former academy goalkeeper Pierce Charles. The 20-year-old moves from Sheffield Wednesday in a deal worth up to £10 million, signing a contract that keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.

Despite the long-term commitment, the Premier League side has immediately sanctioned a season-long loan move for Charles to Championship club QPR. This arrangement is designed to provide the goalkeeper with regular first-team football to continue his development.

To be back at Manchester City is a very special and proud moment both for me and my family. I know first-hand what a special club City is and I am so excited about looking to the future. I know that my loan to QPR will only help me grow and improve as a player too. Pierce Charles

Charles, who made 21 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday last season and has earned 12 senior caps for Northern Ireland, is now focused on securing the starting spot under Julien Stephan. The move is viewed as a vital step in his professional career as he aims to eventually challenge for a spot in Manchester City's squad.
