Allegri: Napoli must improve defensive concentration and finishing
Napoli manager Massimiliano Allegri discussed the team's defensive lapses and need for clinical finishing ahead of their upcoming Champions League match against Bodo/Glimt.
Ahead of their upcoming Champions League fixture, Napoli manager Massimiliano Allegri has warned his side about the challenge posed by Bodo/Glimt. The coach acknowledged that the opponents are well-drilled, particularly in their ability to maintain a low defensive block and execute swift counter-attacks.
Allegri pointed out that his team has been falling short during critical phases of recent matches. Reflecting on the game in Venice, he noted that despite creating numerous opportunities, the final result was disappointing. «It would be better to get a result with one shot on target,» he remarked, emphasizing that performance efficiency is currently more important than style.
We need to improve in several areas and get several players who are not at their best back to peak condition. We must do that with complete calm, without performance anxiety or haste. Massimiliano Allegri
Regarding defensive structure, Allegri insisted that the debate between playing three or four at the back is secondary to technical execution. He explained that the distinction mostly affects the right flank's role rather than overall defensive stability. The manager stressed that the team possesses high technical quality but has been undone by lapses in concentration, similar to those seen against AC Milan and in Venice.
