PSG are facing an unexpected challenge despite their recent strong performances. Manager Luis Enrique has openly admitted that his squad currently lacks a genuine penalty specialist. The issue has become a talking point following a string of missed spot-kicks by key players.
Ousmane Dembele was the most recent player to miss after coming off the bench in a victory over Strasbourg. Prior to that, Ferran Torres failed to convert against Manchester City, and Doue missed during a win against Le Mans. While these errors have not affected the final results, the trend is becoming a concern.
"It's a statistic that's a bit difficult to judge. But every time we have played a final, we had quality takers. We have many players capable of taking penalties, but it is true that we lack a specialist," said Luis Enrique.
Enrique noted that while players like Vitinha and Dembele remain options, the departure of Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan over the summer has left a void in the team's set-piece hierarchy. The manager remains confident in his squad but acknowledges the need for more consistency.
This issue is under the spotlight as PSG prepares for a high-stakes Champions League encounter against Barcelona. In such competitive European fixtures, the ability to convert from the spot often decides the outcome of the tie, leaving Enrique with a pressing task to address before the match.
