Liverpool's transfer window: Questions remain after summer of change
Having spent nearly £200m, Liverpool face lingering concerns over defensive depth and the lack of a natural defensive midfielder as the season intensifies.

As the transfer window closes, Liverpool has reached a state of relative certainty regarding their squad, though doubts persist. Despite an investment of nearly £200m, Arne Slot's side has shown signs of vulnerability, particularly at the back.
This summer saw the arrival of Bradley Barcola for £123m and the loan acquisition of Ronald Araujo, while senior figures like Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson departed. The club's failure to secure a specialist defensive midfielder remains the most cited concern, a position that has reportedly been a priority for three years.
Defensively, the team has conceded twice in each of their first two matches. With long-term injuries to key personnel, the squad's depth will be tested immediately as the fixture list becomes congested with the start of the Champions League on September 10th.
The squad looks light in key areas, and the upcoming fixture density will truly test the depth of this group.
Internally, there is a belief that the long-term strategy of signing players with an average age of 22 will pay off. The club hopes that the attacking trio of Wirtz, Isak, and Barcola can become one of Europe's most feared forces, provided the defense can stabilize under Iraola's guidance.
