Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared details of his attempts to bring superstar forward Kylian Mbappé to the club. The negotiations took place in 2016, during the player's time at Monaco.
"It was the most expensive transfer that never happened! We arrived in Nice, and Mbappé's family boarded a private jet—it had about five rooms. We flew in circles, talked, and had dinner, all while trying to stay under the radar. The impression was excellent... but in the end, Mbappé chose to join PSG," said Jurgen Klopp.
The story highlights how close Liverpool came to securing one of the most sought-after talents in world football. Despite the positive atmosphere during the meetings, Mbappé ultimately decided to move to PSG, where he spent several successful seasons before eventually joining Real Madrid in 2024.
