Inter consider lower contract offer for Calhanoglu due to injury concerns
Following a surge in muscle injuries, Inter are evaluating a new contract proposal for Hakan Calhanoglu with reduced financial terms.

Inter Milan management has begun discussions regarding the future of Hakan Calhanoglu, with his recent injury record becoming a central point of concern. Since the start of the 2024/2025 season, the Turkey captain has suffered 12 separate muscle-related problems, forcing him to miss 33 matches across club and international football.
During the previous season, Cristian Chivu had insisted that the club retain the midfielder despite his contract situation. The Romanian coach views the Turk as a vital component of his tactical setup, but the club’s current stance is increasingly cautious regarding the player's physical durability.
Sporting director Dario Baccin has confirmed that initial meetings with the player's agent have already taken place. According to reports, Inter intends to propose an extension to the current deal, which runs until June 30, 2027, but with significant adjustments.
The club is expected to offer a shorter duration—likely a 1+1 deal or a two-year contract—with a lower financial package than his current €6.5 million net annual salary. For the Oaktree ownership group, there is a clear requirement that physical availability must align with the financial investment in the player.
