Gustavo Lema appointed as new head coach of Juarez
Former Pumas manager Gustavo Lema takes over at Juarez, who currently sit at the bottom of the Apertura 2026 standings.
Juarez has officially appointed Gustavo Lema as their new head coach. The manager is tasked with turning the club's fortunes around after a disastrous start to the Apertura 2026 season, which currently sees them sitting at the bottom of the table with zero points after losing every match.
The club began the campaign under Portuguese manager Pedro Caixinha, but his tenure ended in dismissal following the poor run of results. Salvador Valero stepped in as interim manager, but failed to change the team's trajectory.
Lema returns to Mexican football following a stint in Chile with Audax Italiano. He is best known for his previous role as head coach of Pumas, where he managed 54 official matches between December 2023 and February 2025, recording 23 wins, 13 draws, and 18 losses.
Before his time at Pumas, Lema served as a long-time assistant to Antonio Mohamed, including a spell at Celta de Vigo. He now faces the significant challenge of stabilizing Juarez and attempting to restore the team's competitiveness for the remainder of the tournament.
