Giancarlo Marocchi criticises Juventus' defensive lapses and lack of leadership
Former Juventus midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi has slammed the team's defensive organisation and highlighted a worrying lack of leaders compared to their rivals.
Former Juventus midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi has voiced strong criticism regarding the defensive organisation within the squad. The pundit singled out Jhon Lucumí for failing to provide necessary support in defensive transitions during recent outings.
Lucumí can’t do something like that. If I’m a Serie A player and I don’t realise I need to double up to help Celik, there’s nothing more to say. In the end, it’s a certain 3-0. Giancarlo Marocchi
Beyond specific defensive errors, Marocchi expressed concern about the current lack of leadership at the club. He argued that Juventus are currently lacking the kind of personality that is present in abundance at rivals such as Inter and AC Milan, who possess multiple players with the character to drive a team forward.
Regarding tactical approach, Marocchi suggested that the coaching staff should simplify their setup. He noted that while Weston McKennie serves as a solid 12th man, the team currently lacks the specific profile of players—strikers and midfielders with the right attributes to penetrate the box consistently—required to make the most of their width during counter-attacks.
