A heat advisory is in effect for Miami ahead of the World Cup quarterfinal between Norway and England at Hard Rock Stadium. The advisory is active from 11 am to 7 pm local time, with heat index values expected to reach near 110F (43C) during the day.
Conditions at the 5 pm kick-off are forecasted to be 91F (33C), with mostly sunny skies and a 20% chance of showers or thunderstorms. While the probability of storms that could trigger a match delay is low, monitoring remains ongoing.
This edition of the World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, has seen many matches played in temperatures exceeding 32C (90F). Such extreme heat poses health risks to players and fans, and authorities have urged those attending to take precautions, such as staying hydrated and wearing appropriate clothing.
Under the tournament's thunderstorm protocol, a match must be suspended if lightning is detected within an eight-mile radius of the stadium. A 30-minute countdown is then initiated, which resets if further strikes occur, as seen in previous matches during the tournament.
