Taking over at Manchester City this summer was viewed by many as an impossible mission for Enzo Maresca. Succeeding the legendary Pep Guardiola is a challenge that has historically unsettled even the most experienced managers, yet Maresca is making the transition look remarkably smooth.
The side currently sits joint-top of the Premier League with Arsenal, having won all four of their opening league fixtures. A standout 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford highlighted the manager's composure, particularly while managing the game with 10 men after Phil Foden’s dismissal.

Maresca is clearly stepping out of Guardiola’s shadow. While his predecessor was known for his frantic energy on the touchline, Maresca prefers a motionless, observant approach. In training, he has introduced loud house music to boost the players' morale and performance levels. Captain Ruben Dias noted that while the fundamentals remain consistent with the club's philosophy, Maresca has introduced fresh tactical nuances in pressing and defense.
The manager remains unfazed by inevitable comparisons to the past, viewing the role as a privilege rather than a burden. Following a season-opening loss in the Community Shield, City have bounced back with five straight wins in all competitions, including a Champions League victory over Porto. The team’s next challenges include a Carabao Cup tie against Norwich and a home league fixture against Sunderland.
