During Argentina's 3-1 victory over Jordan in the 2026 World Cup, a key tactical moment unfolded before the opening goal. While Giovani Lo Celso struck the free-kick that broke the deadlock, it was goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who orchestrated the setup.
Broadcast footage revealed Martinez directing the positioning of Giuliano Simeone, Marcos Senesi, and Nicolas Otamendi. By lining them up in front of the defensive wall, they effectively obstructed the view of the Jordan goalkeeper at the critical moment of the strike.
I feel very uncomfortable in goal when I see a double wall. We can keep improving this, but that stays between us now. I try to tell the guys what makes things difficult for goalkeepers. Emiliano Martinez
This tactical maneuver paid off, helping Argentina maintain their 100% record through the group stage. In addition to Lo Celso's strike, Lautaro Martinez and Lionel Messi also found the net, with the latter further extending his goalscoring record in the current tournament.
