Following Robert Sanchez's deadline-day loan move, Emiliano Martinez has swapped his No.26 for the prestigious No.1 shirt at Chelsea.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has opted for a squad number change at Chelsea after just one competitive appearance. The 34-year-old, who joined from Aston Villa in a £7.5 million deal, initially requested the iconic No.26 shirt, previously worn by club legend John Terry. He wore the jersey during the Blues' 4-3 victory over Brighton.
The decision to switch followed the deadline-day departure of Robert Sanchez, who joined Como on loan. Sanchez's exit left the No.1 shirt vacant, allowing Martinez to quickly upgrade his squad number to the traditional goalkeeper's digit.
Chelsea have confirmed the change and introduced a gesture for supporters who purchased the 'Martinez 26' jersey. Fans can bring their shirt and proof of purchase to Stamford Bridge by October 4 to have it personally signed by the new shot-stopper.
Martinez had previously revealed that he received John Terry's blessing to wear the No.26 shirt, noting their shared mindset regarding clean sheets. Despite that mutual respect, Martinez will now look to forge his own path in the No.1 jersey.
The Argentine is expected to make his next appearance in his new kit when Chelsea face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The fixture provides an ironic twist, as Martinez famously wore the No.26 shirt during his time at the north London club.
