EFL slams UEFA 'unwillingness to co-operate' as fixture chaos hits Carabao Cup
The EFL has criticized UEFA for Champions League scheduling conflicts that forced major changes to Carabao Cup fixtures for Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton, and Wolves.

The English Football League (EFL) has launched a stinging critique of UEFA following a scheduling standoff that forced a domestic fixture reshuffle. The conflict began when UEFA scheduled Liverpool's home Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid for September 9.
This date directly clashed with Everton’s confirmed Carabao Cup third-round tie against Wolves. Local operational rules prohibit the two Merseyside clubs from playing at home on the same night, yet UEFA refused to shift the European fixture, citing the needs of traveling fans.
As a result, the EFL was forced to overhaul its calendar. Everton’s cup tie has been pushed to September 16, which compelled the rescheduling of Liverpool’s match against Tottenham to September 15. The disruption extended to the Championship, where the Wolves versus Portsmouth game was delayed until October 20.
The EFL has been left with no option than to rearrange a number of its fixtures following the announcement of fixture details for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. Official EFL Statement
UEFA defended its stance, stating that the EFL failed to flag the conflict during the scheduling process and that changing the match at that stage was impossible due to travel arrangements already made by supporters.
The situation highlights the mounting friction between domestic leagues and expanded European tournament formats. Despite EFL efforts to implement draw conditions that prevent conflicts, UEFA's new scheduling requirements are placing significant strain on the English domestic calendar.
