Jorge Sánchez: Liga MX has little recognition in Europe
Defender Jorge Sánchez discussed the challenges Mexican players face in Europe and the lack of visibility of Liga MX on foreign television.

Defender Jorge Sánchez has spoken candidly about how Mexican football is perceived abroad. During his tenure at Dutch club Ajax, he noticed that Liga MX received almost no media coverage on local television compared to other tournaments like the MLS or the Argentine league.
Speaking on the 'Cracks y Mortales' podcast, the defender revealed that he and his compatriot Edson Álvarez were surprised by the cultural and media gap they experienced. They noted that their domestic league was rarely featured in daily sports summaries.
«I swear, in Holland, they don't know anyone from Liga MX. Sadly, they don't know the teams. They show the Argentine league, the MLS, and we never appeared on television,» confessed Sánchez.
This reality forced Sánchez to reflect on the difficulty for players trained in Mexico to break into European football. He praised the thorough scouting process conducted by Ajax, which involved monitoring him for two years before making a formal offer.
Sánchez concluded that securing a transfer to a top-tier European side is a major accomplishment for a Mexican player, especially given that many clubs are not familiar with the quality of the local league.
