Cesar Garza secures Monterrey victory against Cruz Azul
Academy product Cesar Garza marked his return to the starting lineup with the winning goal in Monterrey's 1-0 victory over Cruz Azul, snapping a winless streak.

Cesar Garza, who developed through the Monterrey academy before gaining experience in Scotland and with Pumas, finally seized his opportunity with his boyhood club. In the 9th round clash against Cruz Azul, the midfielder was named in the starting lineup and delivered a 1-0 victory for his side.
Manager Matias Almeyda entrusted Garza with a starting role, partly due to requirements regarding the use of young players, but the midfielder proved his value with a standout performance. In the seventh minute, following a defensive error from Cruz Azul forced by pressure from Jesus "Tecatito" Corona and Lucas Ocampos, Garza struck a first-time shot from outside the box to find the back of the net.
The goal proved to be the difference, effectively ending Monterrey's winless streak. Garza remained on the pitch for 88 minutes, showing that his inclusion was more than just a tactical formality to meet league rules.
His journey back to Monterrey included stints with Dundee FC in Scotland and a spell at Pumas during the 2026 Clausura. Returning home has provided Garza the perfect platform to establish himself as a key contributor for the Regiomontano team.
