Bruno Fernandes hits back at Roy Keane over misquoted comments
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has accused Roy Keane of lying following public criticism regarding his attitude.
A public rift has emerged between current Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and club legend Roy Keane. The tension escalated after Keane, speaking on The Overlap podcast, accused the Portuguese midfielder of selfishness, suggesting he prioritizes personal assist records over team success.
Keane based his criticism on remarks he claimed Fernandes made following a victory over Nottingham Forest. However, Fernandes refuted these allegations while appearing on The Diary of a CEO, clarifying that his actual comments focused on the importance of the team's victory rather than individual stats.
I have always accepted criticism from everyone. People have their own opinion. But I don't like it when people lie... What Roy Keane said is a lie. He is putting words in my mouth that were not said. Bruno Fernandes
Fernandes revealed he even sought contact details from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to speak with Keane directly about the situation. Keane subsequently posted a cryptic image of a donkey on Instagram, which was widely interpreted by fans and media as a pointed response to the captain.
The controversy coincides with a historic individual season for Fernandes. He set a new Premier League record with 21 assists, playing a pivotal role in securing a Champions League spot for United. His performances also earned him the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award.
