Botafogo shifts recruitment strategy amid management change
As Botafogo transitions to GDA Luma management, the club is adjusting its transfer policy to prioritize scouting and targeted acquisitions.
Botafogo has initiated a shift in its recruitment strategy as the club transitions from John Textor's management to Gabriel de Alba's GDA Luma. The club is working behind the scenes to address roster gaps ahead of the transfer window, which opens on July 20 and runs until September 11.
The new approach emphasizes data-driven scouting, now overseen by Brunno Noce, who took over the department following the departure of Alessandro Brito. This move reflects the club's aim to operate within a new financial reality and reduce the operational strain that has hindered the team in recent periods.
Botafogo has already lined up three new signings to address key areas. The club has reached agreements for goalkeepers Warleson, from Belgian side Cercle Brugge, and Gabriel Batista, formerly of Santa Clara. Additionally, the defense will be bolstered by the arrival of Lucas Monzón, who joins from Racing-URU following a loan spell at Junior Barranquilla.
The investment for Warleson and Monzón is estimated at approximately 8 million reais, marking the first clear signal of GDA Luma's operational direction.
Simultaneously, the front office is working to lift two FIFA transfer bans. These are expected to be resolved soon, aided by the club's ongoing judicial recovery process. Looking ahead, the club is also expected to pursue a defensive midfielder and an attacking-midfield player to balance the squad.
