Spanish club AD Ceuta has faced significant squad-building challenges this summer. President Luhay Hamido revealed that 15 players withdrew from potential transfers due to the escalating migrant crisis in the North African enclave.
According to Hamido, players who were close to signing ultimately declined the moves due to safety concerns expressed by their families. Addressing the situation, he noted: "Their wives are scared, the children... If you're not living it, it feels like a state of siege." He emphasized that the existing squad and coaching staff remain in a secure environment and are continuing their training routine under normal conditions.
The club attempted to ease concerns by inviting targets to visit the city and facilities without any obligation. Ultimately, they managed to complete some late signings before the deadline. The president remains confident in the squad's ability to compete despite the disruptions.
AD Ceuta currently sits at the bottom of the table after losing all three opening matches. Jose Juan Romero's side now prepares for a home fixture against Celta Fortuna on September 5, looking to integrate the new arrivals and secure their first points of the campaign.
