The Paris Administrative Court has upheld sanctions imposed by the French Football Federation, formally relegating Bordeaux to Regional 1, the sixth tier of French football. The ruling confirmed that financial guarantees provided by the investment fund Sparta Capital were insufficient to prevent the administrative demotion from the fourth division.

This outcome pushes the historic institution to the brink of judicial liquidation. The club's future now depends entirely on whether Sparta Capital decides to continue funding regional operations or withdraws, which would trigger a complete structural collapse.

Legal authorities had previously rejected financial recovery proposals, including a 10.6 million euro investment package intended to settle debts following the club's 2024 bankruptcy and loss of professional status. The court determined these measures were inadequate to stabilize the club's operations.

This marks a dramatic decline for the six-time Ligue 1 champions, a club that once showcased legends like Zinedine Zidane and reached the 1996 UEFA Cup final. Bordeaux must now prepare for a grueling rebuild in the amateur leagues, completely detached from the professional pyramid until at least the 2026-27 season.
