The six-a-side football tournament Baller League will no longer be broadcast on Sky Sports. It has been confirmed that the contract with the broadcaster has not been renewed, marking a shift for the competition to focus exclusively on digital platforms.
Baller League chief executive Felix Starck stated that Sky Sports was always intended as an add-on rather than the core of their strategy. He noted that over 90% of the league's audience consumes content online, allowing the organization to reach fans directly without relying on traditional television.
Sky Sports was always framed as an add-on to our strategy, not the centre of it. We're not dependent on a traditional broadcaster to deliver an audience to us; we reach our audience directly. Felix Starck
The league has seen significant growth in its digital reach, with the most recent third season recording approximately 12 million YouTube livestream views, a 32% increase compared to the previous season. The format, which features a mix of ex-pros, creators, and rising talent in 30-minute games, has proven popular with the 16 to 28-year-old demographic.
Key selling points for the brand remain the ability for fans to watch for free without a subscription and lower ticket costs compared to traditional sports. The partnership with Sky Sports has now come to a natural conclusion, and the league will continue to stream matches on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok.
