Andrés Gómez's World Cup call-up provides financial boost to Vasco da Gama
Vasco da Gama forward Andrés Gómez has been named in Colombia's squad for the 2026 World Cup, triggering FIFA financial benefit payments for the Brazilian club.
Forward Vasco da Gama's Andrés Gómez is set to be the club's sole representative at the 2026 World Cup after being named in Colombia's 26-man squad by manager Néstor Lorenzo.
This selection activates the FIFA Club Benefits Programme, which compensates teams for releasing players to international duty. The program pays out 5,000 USD per day for every day a player remains with their national team throughout the tournament.
In addition to the World Cup earnings, Vasco is already eligible for approximately 4,720 USD related to Gómez's participation in two previous World Cup qualifying matches. The final amount the club receives will depend on how far Colombia progresses in the competition.
Should Colombia be eliminated in the group stage, Vasco is projected to receive around 165,000 USD in daily payments. If the team reaches the final on July 19, the total duration of the call-up would reach 54 days, potentially increasing the total payout to 270,000 USD.
