FIFA confirms lifetime bans for two former officials
FIFA has issued lifetime bans to Vincent Cassell and Bassam Adeel Jaleel following extensive financial misconduct and the misappropriation of federation funds.

FIFA's ethics committee has handed out lifetime bans to Vincent Cassell and Bassam Adeel Jaleel, citing severe financial misconduct and the abuse of their official positions. These sanctions follow extensive investigations into the governance of their respective football federations.
Vincent Cassell, the long-time leader of the Montserrat football body, was found guilty of systemic conflicts of interest and the misuse of FIFA funds. Meanwhile, Bassam Adeel Jaleel, the former president of the Maldives federation, was sanctioned for diverting COVID-19 relief funds provided by FIFA for personal gain.
Beyond the lifetime bans, FIFA has imposed heavy financial penalties. Both Cassell and Jaleel have been fined 1 million Swiss francs each. Additionally, Mohamed Ageel, the former finance director for the Maldives, received a 10-year ban and a 100,000 Swiss franc fine for his role in concealing the illicit transactions and failing to cooperate with ethics investigators.
The situation in Montserrat had deteriorated to the point where FIFA installed an emergency management team last February, citing an exceptional crisis and institutional paralysis. These measures reflect the governing body's attempt to restore order in associations plagued by long-standing management issues.
