Manchester United ban 685 fan accounts following ticketing investigation

Manchester United have officially concluded their investigation into ticket touting, resulting in the ban of 685 accounts and sanctions or warnings issued to 464 supporters. The probe, which began in July, aimed to dismantle organized networks that were manipulating the club's ticketing system for financial gain.

The process initially triggered backlash from fans who feared their season tickets might be confiscated without clear justification. The club acknowledged underestimating the frequency of legitimate ticket sharing among fans and expressed regret for any distress caused. Following a review, 468 cases were resolved with no further action, while an independent appeals panel upheld 499 of the bans.

The club has defended its actions, asserting that they targeted only those involved in significant misuse of the system. According to the club, organized networks were controlling and distributing tickets from hundreds of accounts. To demonstrate that they are not profiting from the situation, Manchester United confirmed that sanctioned tickets will be made available at standard season ticket prices on a match-by-match basis.

This crackdown follows similar initiatives across the Premier League, where other clubs have also taken aggressive measures. Manchester City recently banned 165 supporters, while Liverpool issued over 400 lifetime bans to combat ticket touting.
