The match between Switzerland and Algeria marked the final game of the 2026 World Cup to be played in the late-night hours for South American viewers. Throughout the group stage and the first round of the knockout phase, fans experienced matches that kicked off between 11 PM and 1 AM.
FIFA has confirmed that the schedule will be altered starting from the round of 16. With fewer games per day, organizers have reorganized the calendar to spread out kickoff times, ensuring that the final match of the day concludes no later than 10 PM.
Another significant change moving forward is that the tournament will become centralized. From the quarter-finals onwards, all remaining fixtures will be played exclusively in the United States, concluding the phase where matches were held in Mexico and Canada.
The quarter-final cities include Boston, Los Angeles, Kansas City, and Miami, while the semi-finals are set to take place in Dallas and Atlanta. The final of the tournament is scheduled to be held in the New York/New Jersey area.
