FIFA has confirmed that fans will be permitted to bring sealed disposable water bottles into World Cup 2026 stadiums. This move follows significant criticism regarding the governing body's initial decision to ban all types of bottles, cups, and jars.

The organization initially introduced a late policy change to restrict these items citing safety concerns. FIFA has now clarified that the ban applies specifically to hard-sided, reusable containers, which officials believe pose a security risk if thrown.

Each spectator can bring with them one 20 ounce (560ml) soft, plastic disposable factory-sealed water bottle into the stadium. What is not allowed are hard-sided resealable water containers, which could pose a safety and security risk. Heimo Schirgi

The earlier total ban had prompted warnings from health experts who argued it would increase the likelihood of heat-related illnesses among spectators. To address these concerns, FIFA has committed to keeping prices for bottled water sold within the stadiums in line with standard venue pricing.
