West Ham sack Nuno Espirito Santo after disappointing Championship start
The London club has parted ways with their head coach following a series of poor results in the Championship.
West Ham United have officially sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo following a disappointing start to their Championship campaign. The decision comes after a period of instability for the London side.
The 52-year-old had been in charge since September 2025, overseeing the team's relegation from the Premier League last season. Despite being widely tipped as favourites for automatic promotion, the Hammers currently sit eighth in the table, six points adrift of leaders Middlesbrough.
The club's form has been concerning, with only two wins in their last six matches. Recent back-to-back home defeats — a 3-2 loss to Southampton and a 3-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion last Saturday — proved to be the catalyst for the board's decision.
Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also departed. Mark Noble, Steve Potts, and Gerard Prenderville have been appointed as the interim management team for the upcoming Championship trip to Cardiff City on Wednesday.
Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the board of directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the club's objectives and expectations remain on track. West Ham United
The club confirmed that the search for a new permanent head coach is already underway as they look to revive their promotion challenge.
