The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has distributed a record £49.6m to its member clubs over the past year. This figure represents an 18% increase compared to the previous period, with the league securing an additional £7.6m in distributions.

The financial growth has been largely attributed to gains in the international broadcasting rights market, alongside revenue from licensing, match data, and sponsorship deals. Chief executive Neil Doncaster described the results as the strongest in the league's history, noting that both turnover and total group distributions have surpassed previous records.

The league’s commercial success coincides with record-breaking attendance figures. The Scottish Premiership saw crowds top four million for the first time last season, maintaining the league's reputation for high per-capita attendance within Europe. UEFA figures indicate that approximately six million spectators attended men’s matches in Scotland throughout the 2025-26 campaign, including games in lower leagues, domestic cup ties, and European matches.

Successfully balancing broadcast revenue with match-day attendances and the unique atmosphere created within packed stadia is central to the SPFL being recognised widely as one of the most intense, compelling, and emotive sporting competitions in the world. Neil Doncaster
