The Scottish FA has announced that Scot Gemmill will depart from his role as Scotland Under-21 head coach. This departure concludes a 13-year tenure for the 55-year-old within the national team's coaching structure.
Before leading the Under-21s, Gemmill previously coached Scotland's Under-17 side. While he did not guide the Under-21s to a European Championship, he did manage a fourth-place finish at the Toulon Tournament in 2018.
Craig Mulholland, the Scottish FA chief football officer, commented:
On behalf of the Scottish FA, I'd like to thank Scot for his many years of dedicated service to the game in this country. He is held in the highest esteem by those who have worked alongside him, and I know that respect extends to the countless young players who have played under him at the various age levels. Gemmill enjoyed a distinguished playing career, primarily in England with clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Everton, Preston North End, Leicester City, and Oxford United, before concluding his playing days with the New Zealand Knights.
