Ermedin Demirovic delivered a masterclass in finishing as VfB Stuttgart secured a 3-1 victory over Viking FK on the club's 133rd anniversary. The Bosnian international’s first-half hat-trick provided the perfect start to their Champions League campaign.
After a slow start, Demirovic broke the deadlock in the 20th minute. Although Viking responded through Zlatko Tripic, Demirovic struck twice more before the interval to put the game out of reach. His third goal, in particular, showcased his composure and technical quality inside the box.
The win is a nice way to kick off the Champions League campaign. We've picked up three points and I'm pleased about my three goals. Ermedin Demirovic
Despite his personal success, Demirovic remained grounded. Echoing his coach's thoughts, the forward pointed out that the team still showed defensive vulnerability, especially during second-half counter-attacks. He emphasized that tightening up defensive transitions is a priority for the squad as they move forward in the competition.
Stuttgart now look to build on this momentum across both domestic and European fixtures. With Demirovic in such clinical form, the club is well-positioned for the demanding schedule ahead in the league phase.
