A legendary tenure at Kingsmeadow has concluded, as Sam Kerr departs Chelsea after six-and-a-half transformative years. During her time in London, the Australian forward netted 116 goals in 158 appearances, securing five WSL titles and helping redefine the club's success in the English game.
According to The Athletic, Kerr is expected to reunite with Gotham FC, the NWSL champions formerly known as Sky Blue FC. This marks her return to the New Jersey-based outfit, where she previously featured between 2015 and 2017 before her successful stints with Chicago and Chelsea.
The move will see Kerr join a familiar environment, as she reunites with former Chelsea teammates Jess Carter, Ann-Katrin Berger, and Guro Reiten. Gotham’s recent growth, which includes plans for a 35 million dollar training facility, has made them a prime destination for elite talent looking to compete at the top of the NWSL.
Despite suffering a long-term ACL injury in 2024, Kerr returned to form to finish her final season at Chelsea with 17 goals. Her predatory instincts remain elite, and Gotham will rely on that firepower as they look to defend their championship crown from their current fifth-place standing.
