Roma are scouting for a reliable young centre-back to bolster their squad during the January transfer window. The club is prioritising a defender who is strong in the air and capable of providing depth, as they look to replace underperforming options in the current backline.

Reports suggest that Lorenzo Pirola is a candidate for the Italian side. The 22-year-old, a product of Inter's youth system, is currently playing for Greek club Olympiacos. Once regarded as one of Italy's brightest defensive prospects, his career was previously hindered by fitness issues and injuries.

After moving to Greece, Pirola has finally secured a regular starting spot under Imanol Alguacil. He has made 12 appearances across all competitions this season, including starts in Champions League qualifying, the Europa League, and domestic league action.

Olympiacos secured Pirola from Salernitana in the summer of 2024 for a fee of 3 million euros. With his contract running until June 2028, Roma could potentially view this as a low-cost opportunity to add defensive reinforcements mid-season.
