In their German Cup first-round fixture against Bayern Munich, second-division side VfL Osnabruck delivered one of the most creative fan displays in recent German football history. Supporters at the Bremer Brucke stadium unveiled a massive structure featuring a functional rollercoaster.
The display, which took months to design and construct, carried the slogan 'VfL Osnabruck – a rollercoaster ride!'. It featured a wooden cart moving along a track, designed to represent the club’s history of both major triumphs, such as their 1978 win over Bayern, and various bitter defeats. The structure, built from wood and plastic, even included a 'photo station' effect where a flash triggered a fake photo of the cart on the stand.
Supporters also composed a special song for the occasion, 'Funpark Bremer Brucke', adding to the party atmosphere before kick-off. The effort clearly energized the home side, who shocked the reigning Bundesliga champions by taking a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game.
Despite the spirited start, Bayern Munich eventually asserted their dominance. A brace from England captain Harry Kane, alongside goals from Tom Bischof and Michael Olise, secured a 4-1 victory for the visitors and a spot in the next round of the competition.
