Harry Kane is on the verge of cementing his place in the pantheon of English footballing greats. Should the 33-year-old feature in Tuesday’s Nations League encounter at Wembley against Czechia, he will move level with legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton on 125 caps, becoming the joint most-capped male player in the history of the national team.
This milestone complements his record as England's all-time leading goalscorer. During the recent international break, Kane showed no signs of slowing down, netting twice in a dominant 7-0 victory over Croatia to bring his international tally to 89 goals.
I think all these number nines in the world, no matter in which league or in youth football, they are built a little bit differently. They not only do it so that their team wins, but they also do it for themselves, they do it for the records. You will not find any goalscorer of this calibre who has not these individual goals set up and pushing him to the limit. That's how Harry is built. Thomas Tuchel
Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel believes this obsession with statistical milestones is what separates elite strikers from the pack. Tuchel noted that since moving to Germany in 2023, Kane has found another gear, improving his overall game beyond just finishing and performing at the highest level on and off the pitch.
England currently sit second in their Nations League group, trailing leaders Spain by three points. A victory against Czechia is essential if they are to keep pace, and the team will look to their record-breaking captain to provide the spark as he chases history at Wembley.
