Ricardo La Volpe warns: Mexico lacks continuity in playing style

Former Mexico head coach Ricardo La Volpe has raised alarms regarding the state of the national team, arguing that a lack of continuity in tactical approach is preventing the squad from establishing a sustainable identity. According to La Volpe, the constant rotation of managers with conflicting philosophies hinders the team's long-term progress.

"Mexico does not have continuity in its way of playing. One manager comes in and plays one way, and another arrives and plays differently," La Volpe explained. He pointed to Morocco as an example of a team that maintains a consistent system, which he believes is crucial for success, alongside the importance of the talent pool.

La Volpe expressed skepticism that Rafael Marquez would share the same footballing philosophy as Javier Aguirre, noting that this lack of alignment is a recurring issue. He also highlighted systemic concerns within Liga MX, specifically the reliance on foreign players as club leaders at the expense of developing young local talent.

"I have worked with young players; I know them. We need more youngsters in the First Division," he stated, advocating for more opportunities for local youth to build a system of play. Additionally, the former coach addressed the rivalry between Mexican and Argentine fans, admitting he finds it difficult to understand the roots of this tension, having previously faced criticism for supporting Mexico against Argentina.
