Rayo Vallecano earned a 2-1 win against Espanyol in the 6th round of the La Liga season. The victory provides a necessary boost for the Madrid side after recent defeats against the league's top contenders.
The match was technically a home fixture for Rayo but was played at the Leganes stadium. The club has been forced to relocate due to ongoing maintenance and sanitary issues at their home ground, the Estadio de Vallecas. The club expects to return to their home stadium once these issues are fully resolved.
Rayo dominated the early stages, with Alvaro Garcia opening the scoring in the 3rd minute. Adria Pedrosa added a second goal against his former club before the break. Espanyol responded in the second half through a goal from Fernandez, but Rayo held firm to secure the win, even after Espanyol's El-Hilali was sent off in stoppage time.
With this result, Rayo Vallecano moves to 12th place in the standings with 7 points, drawing level with Espanyol, who remain slightly higher due to a superior goal difference.
