Former Chelsea women's football head Paul Green, who departed in February after 13 years, admits he has only recently begun to appreciate the scale of his success. During his partnership with Emma Hayes, the club secured 19 major trophies, including six consecutive Women's Super League titles.
Green revealed that during his time at the club, his achievements often went unnoticed in his personal life: "I had so many medals that were just chucked under the bed in a box. I've had time to get them framed." He expressed pride in leaving the club in a stronger position than when he joined, despite the eventual change in direction.
After a seven-month break, Green has embarked on a new chapter as the chief football officer for the San Francisco-based Bay FC. He cited the club's vision and the potential to build something special, reminiscent of his early days in London, as the primary reasons for accepting the role.
Green's immediate priority is to bolster the roster for Bay FC, which currently sits in the lower part of the NWSL table. Leveraging his extensive 20-year network, he intends to be active in the transfer market to improve performance. Additionally, Green suggested that implementing 'B teams' could provide a solution for young players needing exposure, noting its success in other European leagues.
