Michael Carrick: 'Crazy' Manchester United boss looks forward to Roma clash

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick admits it might sound "crazy," but he is genuinely looking forward to the Champions League showdown against Roma at Old Trafford. United enter Tuesday's fixture on the back of nine winless games in all competitions, marking their worst run since the 1988-89 season.

Despite the mounting pressure and speculation that he could lose his job during the upcoming international break, Carrick is focused on the opportunity to change the narrative. "You might think I'm crazy with the results we've had and what's going on, but genuinely, I really can't wait for the game," Carrick said. "Whatever happens is going to happen in whatever direction it goes in, but we want to make it a big night tomorrow."

During an open training session at Carrington, Carrick dismissed concerns regarding the commitment of his squad. He also addressed the situation surrounding defender Lisandro Martinez, who has faced criticism following his red card against Chelsea, emphasizing that mistakes are part of the game.

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo joined Carrick at the press conference and echoed a message of resilience. "I've been at this club for a long time and know there's always going to be ups and downs," said the 21-year-old. "It's never going to be plain sailing and smooth to the top. Of course it's been a tough season, but I feel like we're one win away from changing that."

United currently sit 17th in the Premier League and 21st in the Champions League table after three games. With only the top 24 teams advancing, the match against the Italian side is crucial for the club's European ambitions.
