Mexico U-20 on the brink of elimination after loss to Poland
Mexico's women's U-20 team suffered a defeat against hosts Poland. They must win their final group match to keep their knockout stage hopes alive.

The Mexico women's U-20 national team is facing potential elimination from the World Cup following a defeat to tournament hosts Poland. Once again, defensive lapses proved costly for the team, which failed to protect an early lead, mirroring their opening performance against Benin.
Mexico took the lead in the 4th minute when Martyna Bartczak inadvertently scored an own goal under pressure from Noemi Villalobos. However, the advantage was short-lived; just five minutes later, Oliwia Zwiazek equalized after a defensive error by Arantza Segura, who lost possession near the edge of the penalty area.
Polish goalkeeper Julia Wozniak was instrumental in the result, making two vital saves against Montse Saldivar to keep the score level. The match was ultimately decided in the 76th minute when a VAR review led to a penalty for a foul by Ashlee Mora. Zuzanna Witek converted the spot-kick to secure a 2-1 victory for the hosts.
This marks the second penalty conceded by Mexico in the tournament. Coach Dorival Bueno's side struggled to regain control of the match, leaving them in a difficult position as the group stage draws to a close.
To advance to the Round of 16, Mexico must win their final group stage match against Argentina. With Argentina currently sitting in second place in Group A with three points, Mexico requires a victory to leapfrog the South American side and keep their campaign alive.
