Inter Miami have officially secured their place in the 2026 MLS playoffs following a 2-0 victory over New York City on Wednesday. The match was effectively decided in the first half, while a crucial late penalty save ensured a clean sheet for the hosts.

German Berterame opened the scoring by converting a pass from Luis Suarez, elegantly chipping the goalkeeper to end his lengthy goal drought. Rodrigo De Paul doubled the lead before the break, playing a one-two with Lionel Messi before striking a powerful shot into the top corner.

In the final stages, New York City had a chance to narrow the deficit from the penalty spot, but Inter Miami goalkeeper Dane St. Clair produced a brilliant save to maintain the lead. For captain Lionel Messi, the assist marked his 14th of the regular season, keeping him at the top of the league's assist charts while he also leads the race for the MLS Golden Boot.

This result marks the team's second consecutive league win, moving them into second place in the Eastern Conference. The club is now preparing for its third straight postseason appearance as they continue their title defense.
