The potential transfer of Mason Greenwood to Roma has hit a significant roadblock. Marseille had been banking on a transfer fee between €50 million and €55 million for the forward to bolster their finances ahead of a crucial appearance before the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog, this coming Tuesday.
However, the deal is currently at a standstill. Roma are interested, but they face strict financial fair play regulations that require them to generate approximately €50 million in capital gains before the end of June. Without balancing their books first, the Serie A side cannot commit to the purchase.
The situation has created a domino effect involving midfielder Manu Kone. Roma are looking to offload the Frenchman to raise the necessary funds. While Arsenal and Chelsea have shown interest, reports suggest the player prefers a move to PSG, which is complicating the negotiations and further slowing the financial chain required by the Giallorossi.
Although Greenwood has reportedly agreed to personal terms on a contract worth roughly €5 million per year, the lack of immediate liquidity in Rome prevents the move from being finalized. With no alternative plan in place for Greenwood, Marseille remains in a state of uncertainty regarding their upcoming financial presentation.
