Manchester United has officially unveiled the proposed location for their new 100,000-capacity stadium. The project will be situated roughly 350 metres away from the current Old Trafford site on land acquired last month, forming a key part of the wider Trafford Wharfside district regeneration.

Collette Roche, United’s chief executive of new stadium development, confirmed that while initial ambitions targeted an earlier completion, the club is now focusing on 2035 as a realistic milestone. The stadium is expected to be a potential venue for the 2035 Women’s World Cup.

Financial specifics remain fluid as the design process is still in its infancy. Roche emphasized that the club intends to maintain a disciplined financial approach, stating: «This needs to be a sanity project, not a vanity project.» The club has firmly ruled out public funding, exploring equity investment and borrowing instead.

We’ve had a lot of approaches from people saying, ‘I want to be part of this.’ So we’re not worried about the level of interest, support and funding options. Collette Roche

Regarding the future of the current Old Trafford, no final decision has been made. The site could potentially be redeveloped or repurposed as part of a wider consultation with the local council. Additionally, the club is considering selling the naming rights to the new stadium to help finance the construction costs.
