Wayne Rooney blasts 'schoolboy' Man Utd star as legend labels Bruno Fernandes comments ‘strange’

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has offered a scathing assessment of the team following their 2-0 loss to Hull City at the MKM Stadium. Rooney was particularly vocal about the defensive errors committed by Luke Shaw, labelling the defender's positioning for the second goal as "schoolboy" defending.

Beyond individual errors, Rooney criticised the overall lack of intensity and passive approach from Michael Carrick’s side. He noted that Hull City’s tactical setup, which mirrored a system United struggled against previously, caught the visitors off guard. Rooney lamented the lack of pressure on the ball, describing the performance as entirely too passive.
The club's record goalscorer also took issue with comments made by captain Bruno Fernandes, who suggested the team were repeating the same mistakes during away matches. Rooney expressed difficulty reconciling this sentiment with the significant progress the club achieved last season under Carrick, which saw them finish third in the Premier League.
The defeat leaves Carrick with significant questions to answer as the squad prepares for their first home fixture of the new campaign. Rectifying defensive lapses and restoring energy in the press will be critical priorities for the coaching staff.
