Manchester United are nearing a deal to sign Mexico international Rebeca Bernal from NWSL side Washington Spirit. The 29-year-old, who operates as both a defender and a midfielder, would become the first Mexican player to appear in the Women's Super League.
Bernal moved to the Spirit in February 2025 from CF Monterrey and has made 41 appearances for the club, including a successful 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup campaign. She was recently absent from the matchday squad against Bay FC, with the club citing an "excused absence."
A regular for her national team with 65 caps and seven goals, Bernal notably scored the winner in the 2023 Pan American Games final against Chile. Her potential arrival adds significant depth to a United side currently undergoing a transition under new manager Eva Olid.
United have been active in the transfer market, having already secured defender Andrea Medina, goalkeeper Janina Leitzig, and winger Monica Jusu Bah.
