Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has publicly defended Manchester United boss Michael Carrick, as pressure mounts on the manager following a difficult start to the season. The Red Devils have recorded just two victories in their opening nine matches across all competitions.
Farke expressed frustration with the current football culture, arguing that there is a tendency to be overly quick to judge and criticise, particularly regarding young British coaches. He believes there is a growing societal trend of taking pleasure in the failure of others, which has permeated into football.
We have the tendency in football, as well as in society, that everyone has to be quicker, everyone doubts a bit more. Developments on social media, not complaining, but just a fact everyone comes out with negativity and likes if someone fails. Daniel Farke
Farke highlighted the quality Carrick demonstrated last season when he stabilised the club during a challenging period, eventually guiding them to Champions League qualification. He believes that such achievements should earn managers more patience, especially those who are early in their coaching careers.
Despite Farke’s impassioned support, Carrick faces an urgent need for results. With Manchester United currently sitting in mid-table, the focus is now squarely on the upcoming fixtures. The manager must find a way to replicate the form that earned the club European football last season to silence the growing criticism and prove he remains the right man for the job.
