Kieran Trippier agrees deal with Wolves following Newcastle exit
Veteran defender Kieran Trippier has signed a two-year contract with Wolves as he prepares for life in the Championship.
Kieran Trippier has officially departed Newcastle United and is set for a new chapter in the Championship. The 35-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with an option to extend for a further year.
Trippier reportedly turned down multiple offers from across the continent to join the West Midlands club. The deal is currently subject to a medical evaluation, which is expected to be completed next week once the defender returns from his family holiday.
Wolves manager Rob Edwards views the veteran as a vital dressing-room leader. Following their relegation from the top flight, the club is leaning on Trippier's elite experience to help restructure the squad and drive a promotion push throughout the grueling 46-game league campaign.
Trippier leaves St James' Park having made 160 appearances, a tenure highlighted by the 2025 Carabao Cup victory that ended the club's 70-year domestic trophy drought. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe paid tribute to the defender's impact:
He's definitely deserving of recognition. I think the decision to come here in the first place needs to be celebrated because he's gone from a team that was hugely successful in Spain into a team that's fighting relegation. Eddie Howe
