Kamal Miller and Theo Bair to miss Canada's World Cup squad

Canada is nearing the finalization of its 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup. Reports indicate that the coaching staff has informed two players, previously considered to be on the bubble, that they will not be part of the final roster.
Among those set to miss out are long-time defender Kamal Miller and forward Theo Bair. Miller, who was a starter in all three of Canada's matches at the 2022 World Cup, has struggled to adapt to the high defensive line preferred by head coach Jesse Marsch.
Theo Bair's exclusion comes after he failed to rediscover his form following an ankle injury sustained earlier this year. The forward, currently on loan at Lausanne, had a strong start to the season but struggled for consistency throughout his recovery period.
These exclusions offer hints regarding the fitness of other squad members. Miller’s omission suggests that the staff may be optimistic about the availability of center-backs like Moise Bombito or Alfie Jones. Meanwhile, the decision regarding Bair might imply that Promise David is further along in his recovery from hip surgery and remains in contention for a spot.
The official Canada World Cup roster is scheduled to be unveiled on May 29, with the final submission deadline for FIFA set for June 1.
