Japan fans continue tradition of cleaning stadium in Monterrey
Japanese supporters once again cleaned their section after the 2026 World Cup match, with local Mexican fans joining in the effort.

Japan national team supporters have once again showcased their sense of civic responsibility during the 2026 World Cup. Following the final whistle of their dominant 4-0 victory over Tunisia in the Group F match, attention shifted from the pitch to the stands at the Estadio Monterrey.
As previously planned, the Japanese fans began their now-famous community effort. Equipped with blue bags brought from home, they methodically moved through the rows to clear away cups, wrappers, and food remnants. In an inspiring moment, several Mexican fans, moved by the example, spontaneously joined them to assist with the cleanup.
This behavior has become synonymous with Japanese supporters at international tournaments. They performed the same task after their draw against the Netherlands earlier in the competition. While the gesture has received widespread praise on social media, some online discussions have highlighted a perceived contradiction, pointing to statistical data indicating that domestic responsibilities within Japan remain heavily skewed toward women, according to reports from organizations such as the OECD.
