Guillermo Hoyos denies Messi's direct influence on Inter Miami coaching hire

Former Inter Miami interim manager Guillermo Hoyos has officially denied claims that Lionel Messi had a direct hand in selecting Cristian Gonzalez as the team's new head coach. Hoyos emphasized that the invitation of Gonzalez, announced by the club, was purely an institutional decision by the management.

Addressing Messi's role, Hoyos noted that while the captain possesses a natural influence befitting his stature, the final choice remained with the club's hierarchy. He drew comparisons to the respect commanded by senior players in other clubs, while reaffirming the club's professional autonomy.

Inter Miami is currently navigating a difficult stretch, having gone five matches without a win across the MLS regular season and Leagues Cup. Despite this recent form, the team sits in second place in the Eastern Conference with 39 points from 21 games.

Hoyos will continue to manage the team until Gonzalez receives his work permits. Notably, Hoyos will not be on the sidelines for the upcoming away match against Montreal due to a one-match suspension issued by the league regarding systematic delays in kickoff times.
