Giovanni van Bronckhorst has officially returned to Feyenoord as head coach. The 51-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the club, which includes an option for a further year.
He replaces former manager Robin van Persie, who was dismissed after a 16-month tenure at the Eredivisie club. Van Bronckhorst had most recently been serving as an assistant to Arne Slot at Liverpool, but departed the Premier League side earlier this month.
When you've been part of the club since you were seven years old... yes, Feyenoord is a big part of my life. Giovanni van Bronckhorst
Van Bronckhorst shares a long history with the club, having come through the youth ranks and played for Feyenoord across two spells (1993–1998 and 2007–2010). He previously managed the team from 2015 to 2019, securing the 2017 Eredivisie title and back-to-back KNVB Cups.
His most recent managerial role was at Besiktas in 2024, where he led the side to a Turkish Super Cup victory before his departure after five months. The club will now look to him to bring stability following the recent change in leadership.
